![]() Test the new DEB file using the DPKG package manager's simulation or "dry run" mode. Note the name of the DEB file Alien created from your RPM. Type "ls *.deb" at the command prompt, then press the "Enter" key. For example, if your RPM file is named "chatclient.rpm," type "sudo alien -d chatclient.rpm", press the "Enter" key, type in your system password, then press "Enter." Use the "-d" command option to instruct Alien to convert your RPM into a "DEB" file. For instance, if your RPM is in the Downloads folder, type "cd Downloads" then press the "Enter" key. Move to the directory containing the RPM file you want to use.
